Aka “A Year of Rainbow Dash”

So I’ve never done one of these things before, but since I felt like this was an important year, I went ahead and did one. This was the year I broke out of a debilitating 2 year art block that plagued me through my first 2 years of college. I thought that I would be shakey coming back, but with perseverance I found my style again.

Once the summer ended though I lost a lot of drawing time to school, but I kept at it. After following EQD’s Drawfriend for the hundreds of editions that it’s been around, little did I know 3 of my drawings would be included. I went and started Ask Punk Rainbow Dash as something fun to do on the side, and 298 followers later, it’s still going strong.

I get a lot of support from artists who also take the time to make their artworks traditionally, and I really appreciate it. As much as I know the world is becoming more digital, nothing beats the satisfaction or foundational knowledge gained from picking up a pencil or brushing up a canvas with paints.

In a time when I see that a lot of artists are here for profit and monetary gains (and I understand, we all need to make a living), I stick to my principle that that’s not why I started drawing and continue to draw for MLP:FiM. I draw and make art because I’m a fan, and share it because I know other fans and artists would love to see it. I feel like I don’t have the right to withhold my fan art from anyone just because they can’t make the check.

I’ve loved the shit out of these ponies since March 2011, and I know I’m gonna love ‘em in 2014. I’ll see you all there with me.
